Toxicity Tellurium hexafluoride decomposes in water to release highly toxic and corrosive smoke. It has a strong irritating effect on the eyes, skin and mucous membranes. Inhaled vapors can stimulate the lungs and throat. Short-term overexposure can cause drowsiness, discomfort, exhaustion, weakness, dizziness, breathing with garlic smell, sweating, liver and kidney damage, pulmonary edema, bronchitis, cramps, and even suffocation to death. Skin contact can cause dermatitis.
storage and transportation tellurium hexafluoride is packed in special cylinders and stored in a cool and ventilated warehouse. Isolated storage and transportation with organics, combustibles and alkalis. The "poison gas" sign must be affixed. Air and rail transportation is prohibited. In case of fire, water can be used to cool the container and close the valve quickly. Use mist water, foam, dry powder and carbon dioxide to extinguish the fire.
category compressed gas and liquefied gas
toxicity classification highly toxic
acute toxicity inhalation-rat LCL0: 5 PPM/4 hours; Inhalation-mouse LCL0: 5 PPM/1 hour
flammability hazard characteristics Decomposition of toxic hydrogen fluoride gas and tellurite in water
storage and transportation characteristics warehouse ventilation and low temperature drying; Store separately from alkali and mercury
